What is the right time to “MOVE ON”

No, its not about your relationship with you lovey-dovey I’m talking about your relationship with your company or say your job.  Everyone (mostly) at a certain point of time goes through a dilemma about their work. Many can’t understand ht is happening to them and why. But sometimes or the other you need to understand that its time to MOVE ON to doing something else that interests you.

Question is: what are the signs that indicate that its time to MOVE ON?

  1. Wake up to boring morning: When you wake up with a smug face in the morning cause you have to DRAG yourself to work.. Yes, I repeat ; DRAG yourself to work. it is your first sign.
  2. Office Blues: We all go through Monday blues but if you feel its Monday throughout your workdays, you need to understand the sign of universe and start looking for alternate jobs.
  3. Challenge: Yes, they are important at work for your growth. They are like pickle in the food. You can have your meals without pickle, but pickle makes it more tasty. Similarly challenges make you realize where you stand. You come to know your capabilities , strength and weaknesses. So if you don’t find pickle at your job anymore; change your food, I mean MOVE ON.
  4. No Appreciation: You work day and night to achieve your goals or target or complete a task your boss has given you , everyone appreciates that but your boss. You end up doing same thing over and over again. RUNNNN… Better opportunities await you.
  5. Underpaid: If there is something worse than being underdog is being underpaid. Money is not the the best thing in the world but its closest to it. Come’n you did not join the job as charity to the company right? If you know your worth is lot more than what you are being given, pick up your stuff and get going man. You belong to a better place.
  6. Work Satisfaction: This is THE most important factor. Job satisfaction. Whatever you do, has to make you happy. If your work doesnt give you the peace of mind, go look elsewhere for it.

So if you are working and have any of above mentioned symptoms, MOVE ON..!! Life will always provide you with better opportunities for those who seek them.

rentnread.in: A story of my maiden startup

Saturday, June 07 2014; 08:00 PM. I packed the final stuff remaining. Officially I close the company I started on August 18 , 2013. My maiden startup it was rentnread.in. The concept was to make textbooks available for students  at affordable rates. Allow them to take book on rent and return it upon use. i couldn’t make it large but it will always remain close to me as it was my first ever business and  with no monetary help from anyone. Anyways I learnt many lessons from my start-up that I will always remember. Few things I learned from my start-up

1. Know your market: Yes. Its very important to know your potential market. Do pilot project. Go meet the potential consumers. Tell them about your product.  Take their feedback.  And make sure you use that feedback. Supply has no value unless there is demand,

2. Find a co-founder: This one is as crucial as your firm. Look for someone of the same wavelength like that of you. Someone who would take care of your firm in your absence. One reason rentnread suffered was my absence.  I’d not discuss why; but I wasn’t available to provide services for a good period of two months and people thought firm vanished. Don’t let this happen. Go wherever services should never stop.

3. Communicate: Communication has kept world alive. Had there been no communication human beings would not exist. Communicate with your co-founder, your sponsors, your clients and most importantly talk to yourself. Tell yourself your mission, vision and goal behind having started this business.

4. Do your homework well: Do your homework well. When you pitch your project to potential VCs; tell them how your project is generating revenue.  When you pitch your project to customer; tell them your USP.  If your service depends on factors that seriously affect your business or a essential part of your business; make sure you take care of that part.  Eg. rentnread  heavily depended on delivery of the book to the consumer and pick up.  Inadequate transport system was one reason for failure. had I figured it earlier ,story would have been different.

Anyways when I learnt this it was already too late. But I will bounce back. Soon

India & its OPEN minded youth

Before I start with my points; few words about this moral ass who INSPIRED me to write this article. The guy with twitter handle @kapmeht: name Kapil the IITan. First of all I don’t get the need to write that IITan in the name. Moving ahead the bio goes like this ” truly patriotic , well cultured, god Fearing guy; respects ladies beyond limit, concerned with moral degradation of youth and determined to save the youth“.  This kid definitely needs to know meanings of all words he has mentioned in the bio.  He is not just one. Moralass like him are in abundance. They have their own measures of what is right and what is wrong. They decide in their mind what people should do. They think it is their responsibility to tell others as everyone around them who doesn’t follow norms of this hypocritic society needs to learn morals.

I’m writing this for two main reasons. One is I hate moral police and I love to kick their Butts and second this moralass mentioned above was messing women whom society calls FORWARD or Independent. He picked on singer / actor Manasi Scott who happens to be a dear person.  The moralass feels tattoo; bikini; world music; sex are all against our culture. Westernisation has probably ruined India it seems.  Here are my answers to these moralasses of india.

These people say tattoo is a taboo as its against the Indian culture.  Just for your information dear moralass; tattooing is a part of ancient Indian culture.  Tattoos have been used as cultural symbols among many tribal populations, as well as the caste-based Hindu population of India.  To add a little informationTake a magnifying glass to Indian tribal traditions, and you uncover the first clues. For instance, certain tribes believe that Lord Rama’s greatest devotee, Hanuman, can be tattooed on a recurring dislocating shoulder to relieve the pain. The women of the nomadic Ribari tribe of Kutch in northwest India, one of the places the Pandavas visited during their exile, have many extremely elaborate tattoos. And the Ramnami community, scattered across the Indian states of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, began a painful custom in the nineteenth century: they had the name of Rama in Sanskrit tattooed on practically every inch of skin, even on their tongues and inside their lips. This practice was meant to protect them from bigoted caste-conscious brahmanas they had angered by adopting brahminical customs, and is still carried on today. (Courtesy: ISKCON) So tattoo is taboo ruled OUT.

Another thing these moralass thrive on is CULTURE.  They are according to their own selves,  well cultured.  Culture by the way means The culture of India refers to the way of life of the people , their languagesreligionsdancemusicarchitecturefood, and customs. So these guys tell women that they are cheap cause they wear clothes and speak a language of another culture as well.  And telling women cheap is so WELL CULTURED.  claps. It is also our CULTURE.  to publically abuse women who live independently.  Applause  In fact Sex is such a taboo in Indian culture in fact that we have sculptures of mythilocial figure having threesom right outside most known temples of India.  Did they forget we are second most populated country in the world by THE GRACE OF GOD.  Also if anyone of you is into music; kindly explain these guys that music has no language; no borders and that is why we have had music gurus like late Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Jasraj, Pr. Haripasad Chaurasiya and many more presenting our CULTURE across the globe.

Respecting women: We Indians are same people who treat women as goddess at temples  and rape that woman as soon as we are out of temple. We respect them so much that we feel its OK to beat them up anytime we want. We also respect them so much that we sell them off to red light area agents.  We respect women so much that we decide it all for them right from what to wear whom to talk to how to behave. NO one in the world has authority to decide for them. If you respect women dear moralass; respect the choices she makes for be it clothing; tattooing or anything for that fact of matter.

Indian youth; for these guys is morally degraded. Why? Answer is simple. Youth is miles away from these shitty prejudice. We do what we feel is right. We don’t find it wrong to discuss about sex in public. Moralasses say talking or thinking sex is taboo. The reason for this thought is that they never get to do i and so they feel its wrong.  Oh yeah; their parents downloaded them from Google. Krishan kare to raas-leela hum karein to character dheela.  Alcohol is also bad. So bad that if we pick up books about our culture there are references of goddamn gods having SOMRAS. Just a flavored drink you see. Its WEST that brought alcohol we didn’t know of it before other colonies came to India.

This hypocrisy needs to tackled. These morals goons need to be taught a lesson. they need to be told that our respect for our culture is definitely cannot be measured by language we speak or clothes we wear. If you find any moral ass around you just bring them to public eyes. You can tweet about it using #moralass. We will kick their butts.

What are you gonna do with your time this Vacation : Vellapanti or Wise Investment?

I happened to meet my cousins recently. They are in to schools. All done with their exams. All bored and TV, PC and cellphones are their timepass materials. On an average they spend 6-8 hours on these materials daily. I was SHOCKED..!!

Next I happened to meet some people who are done with  SSC/HSSC/ or undergraduate exams. Everyone was too BORED. With 500+ TV channels and zillions of other things to do, they were bored.

What exactly is BOREDOM and how to deal with it?

Boredom: Is that state of mind where an individual is left without anything in particular to do, and not interested in their surroundings. People say they wanna do something and when you suggest them things, they are TOO bored to do it.  What a waste.

Be a Pre-Planner:   Most of the people don’t see this coming and so never plan things. Its always good to anticipate situations and plan out things.  Life is too short and time you have for yourself  is very less. Decide how are going to make use of the little time you have at hand.

Social Networking:  No I don’t mean Facebook or Twitter here. There is a new social network. its called OUTSIDE. Go out for walk, run, jog. Meet new people, people you know already. Speak with them. Why t would you want to be virtual when you could be real?

Go out trip/tour: Rejuvenate. Go out of station with yourself.  Know yourself better. Keep your gadget usage minimum. Discover the place you are at. Learn about their culture , people and ya if you love to cook, you may learn local specialties as well.  Know your strengths , fight your fears.

Join A social Cause: Surprise..!!! Liking pictures about disabled on Facebook doesn’t make any REAL difference in their lives.  They don’t even know that someone is misusing their pictures for  marketing gimmicks. Nor does clicking pictures of dirty roads, overflowing garbage bins and uploading on Facebook does. Some pseudo intellects would comment over it and forget it.  Be a part of social causes. Join hands with local NGOs and take up cleaning process, go to slums around you and teach the kids out there with projects like Teach for India or anything that makes difference to society in a better manner.

Spend time with Family:  Staying  at home and being with family are two DIFFERENT things.  boards and pre college exams keeps you busy. When  you are done with that, sit with parents, talk to your siblings play games with them. Go for family dinner or plan a picnic with them. Make them feel happy. They love you unconditionally. There is no hard in showing some gratitude though. 🙂

Take up a short assignment: If you have nothing to do during vacations, take a part time job or work somewhere as an intern. This will shape you up. You will know how skilled are you practically. This will also teach you new things. You will make some money as well 😉 ;P

Read: I’m not referring to Cosmo here. Read books of different genre.  Read fiction , read biography ; thriller . Reading improves your ability to think rationally. It gives knowledge and also kills boredom.

I have kept my favorite for the end.

LEARN: I like to emphasis this point all the time. Learn. Learn anything you wish to. Cooking, singing ,dancing, swimming, writing, yoga, photography, videography. Goal is to invest the time wisely while acquiring knowledge and gaining satisfaction out of what you do.

So what are you doing this vacation? Vellapanti or Wise Investment?

INTERNSHIPS: Why is important to be an intern?

With placement season coming closer in colleges; like a ritual I penned down application letters and résumé for a few friends. Some of their résumés looked nothing but plain BIO DATA. Reason was simple: They were so engrossed in getting educated in college that they never got any sort of industry education. This is not entirely their fault. Very less courses have compulsory  internship as a part of the course.

Most of the colleges focus on OVERALL DEVELOPMENT of the results so they can boast and continue the in-flow of students constantly. On an average only 20% students go through internship during undergraduate course. Here is why I feel one should get engaged into internship.

EXPOSURE: India often regarded as THIRD WORLD by the West is booming into service sector. International firms are setting up their service process units in India. There is a large pool of employment but students are UNFIT for it. Industries do train their employees but they expect the new comers to have basic knowledge of how things work. Nothing looks better than experience letter from a firm attached with your résumé. So go out and EXPOSE yourself.

Team Management: Hanging around with group of friends is completely different from working with a group of people you have not known before. Even if you are going to work with small company; there would be people around you. You may not like certain things about their behavior, actions and vice versa. If you are industry virgin, you may face HARD time fitting into office and might turnout to be a misfit.

Skill Development: Internships are meant to polish an individual. If you possess skills, develop it. This is possible when you work in firms where you get chance to do self-analysis. Also you develop new skills.

There are lot of other benefits which you get as in intern.

1. Enhanced communication skills
2. Building professional network
3. Self analysis
4. Boosted confidence.

and much more. There are lot of companies that felicitate students to get internships and companies to get interns. letsintern; hellontern twenty19, letmeknow, india interns, internshala are some of the leading internship companies in India.

So if you haven’t looked for any internships yet, go grab the opportunity and improve your résumé.
